Mirror TVs - Style & Utility in One - July 12th, 2009With the advent of flat panel TVs, more and more people have taken to mounting them on their wall, which not only looks great but also helps to de-clutter the living room. No longer do you have to make room for a huge TV and stand/entertainment center; now you can have your TV hanging on the wall - taking up no more room than a painting or photograph. Now, however, people are taking it to the next level by flush-mounting their flat panel TVs behind two-way mirrors, essentially enabling the television to disappear when it's not in use. So how does this work? Well, it's fairly simple. You first get your flat panel television flush-mounted to the wall - meaning that the screen is perfectly flush with the wall and doesn't stick out at all. Though some homeowners get their TV simply mounted and covered with a mirror, flush-mounting just looks better. You can do the mounting yourself if you are confident in doing so, or get a professional to install it for you. Most homeowners find the latter option preferable; though it costs more, the professionals know how to do it better and can usually be held liable if something goes wrong. Better safe than sorry, you know. Next, you need to procure a two-way mirror that fits the size of TV you have. In this case, you don't want to necessarily go the easiest route. Sure, you could get a cheap two-way mirror and save a few bucks, but if you don't get the right kind the picture quality on your TV will suffer. There are companies out there that specifically manufacture two-way mirrors for just this application - two-way mirrors that don't affect picture quality, are optimized for maximum brightness and reduced glare. In the early days of TV mirrors, many people ahd a problem with the reduction in picture quality - the mirror made the picture so dark that you pretty much had to be watching the TV in a dark room. These days, however, the bugs have been worked out. You can also choose from a wide variety of styles when picking out your mirror TV. The best retailers out there will have frames to match just about any decor, and may even be able to customize one for you. Whether your style is modern, retro, or classic, a frame can be found to match your look. Many who have old homes and try to preserve the classic style are pleasantly surprised to find that they can get a solid wood-frame two-way mirror to cover up their flat panel TV. Visitors to the home never even know how they've modernized the place until they turn on the TV, that is. If you're looking for a way to modernize your home and make room for things besides a giant TV, consider getting a mirror TV. Mirror TVs are great for the space economy of your living room and they are always a great talking point in any home that has one. And who doesn't like to show off their ingenuity every once in a while? |
